Setting/Viewing Targets & Benchmarks

Learn how to set portfolio-level and asset-level performance targets in Scaler, and view benchmark comparisons to track progress over time.

Targets and benchmarks can be set across the performance aspects Energy, GHG emissions, Water, Waste, Building Certifications for the metrics use intensity, data coverage and total consumption, like-for-like change, and absolute.

Once targets and benchmarks are added, you can toggle on “Select Target and Benchmark” in the Analytics dashboard and they will appear on the appropriate graphs. Note that Scaler has added Default Targets that are CRREM 1.5°C [Paris aligned] as well as gives user the ability to add the CRREM 2°C [not Paris aligned] in the dashboard to give users a starting point.

      2. you can select “Manual Input”, where you can enter a specific value for every year in the time period. Note that you can copy and paste from Excel into that table so you don’t have to type every value manually. This can be used for frameworks such as LL97 per below.

Viewing Targets: Analytics Mode

  1. View Targets & Benchmarks in the Analytics Portal by going to the Portfolio Tab.
    1. For "Single Year" targets and benchmarks, navigate to the Analytics dashboard on the left-hand menu bar. In the top right corner of the graph, you'll find the "Select target and benchmark" toggle. If you've added multiple targets for a metric, a dropdown menu will appear in the top right corner, allowing you to switch between targets.

After selecting the target, a dotted line appears showing the target level and indicating how the portfolio is performing overall as well as which assets perform above or below this benchmark.

b. For “Pathway” targets that adjust year over year, these will show up under the Portfolio Overview, Roadmaps. A target line will appear on the graphs for which there are targets added.

c. If you have created a property subtype-specific pathway, it will appear under that subtype in either the Energy or GHG tab in Roadmaps. For example, when we selected Office, Corporate: High-Rise Office, United States, the custom pathway LL97 - Office appears below.

If you have filtered by Country and Property subtype, pre-loaded targets may appear for CRREM, GRESB, DGBC or others. These targets are set specifically at the country and property subtype level and thus only appear when filtering at this granularity.

Note:

  • Currently, Pathway targets appear on Roadmaps only when you select Energy or GHG emissions, not for water, waste, or other metrics.
  • You can hide or unhide the target line on an asset distribution graph by clicking in the legend and selecting or deselecting the target.

TIP: If you would like to bulk import a large number of targets or would like to see other relevant targets pre-loaded, like those created by an industry body or green building council, please contact the Scaler team for assistance at client-services@scalerglobal.com.
